SOUTH AFRICA 2026
At the last IPRA-CINDER General Assembly, held in San José (Costa Rica), South Africa was unanimously chosen as the venue for the 24th IPRA-CINDER Congress. The Congress will be held in Cape Town from 30 November to 4 December next year at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), the leading international convention centre on the African continent, which opened in 1999.
Two main topics will be addressed at this meeting. The first, proposed by the host country, will analyse an issue that is very present in South Africa and other countries, not only on the African continent, namely the transformations in the Land Registry and their implications for minorities. Among other things, aspects such as the Land Registry as an instrument of social integration and the regularisation of possessory situations will be addressed.
The second topic to be discussed will be new uses and applications of electronic registries and digitisation, focusing on new risks and challenges. At the suggestion of IPRA-CINDER, there will be a critical reflection to share experiences, problems and solutions that have arisen in the first few years after the implementation of electronic registries and digitisation, considering the advantages that these technological developments have brought to the registry institution, but also what new challenges and risks we face, from a critical point of view.
In accordance with the IPRA-CINDER Regulations, the Congress has two committees, one organizing and one scientific. The organizing committee is composed of Alfonso Candau Pérez, Secretary General and Carmen Miquel Lasso de la Vega, Deputy Secretary, on behalf of IPRA-CINDER. On behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development of South Africa, it is composed of Nakedi Phasha, Given Gabara, Pumeza Gubuda and Tichaona Shoko.
The scientific committee is composed of Carlize Knoesen, director of the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development of South Africa, and Daniel Tsotetsi, Given Gabara, Jabu Maphomolo, Mosenki Lemmi and Nakedi Phasha. On behalf of IPRA-CINDER, this committee will be completed by Eduardo Martínez and Fernando Manrique from Spain, Juan Carlos Mejía Coto from Honduras, Madalena Teixeira from Portugal and Ivan Jacopetti do Lago from Brazil.
The conference website will be available before the end of this year and will publish the most relevant news, such as the registration period, the dates for the submission of abstracts and papers, the list of keynote speakers, as well as the scientific and social program and hotel recommendations.
Participation in this conference, which will feature the valuable presence of leading professionals, particularly from the African continent, will be a unique opportunity to learn about a little-known reality in the field of registration, enriching the perspective of all attendees and contributing to the strengthening of our community through IPRA-CINDER.
This exchange will not only strengthen analysis with a diverse and up-to-date approach, but will also enhance the study of comparative law, an inexhaustible source of knowledge that broadens horizons and opens up new possibilities for registry practice.
